What Makes You Eligible for the Singapore Employment Pass?

·         An established sponsor is required by a Singapore registered company with extensive business activities

·         It is mandatory to have a minimum salary of $3,600 (for a highly experienced candidate the minimum salary criteria rises).

·         The job must be advertised on the government employment portal for at least two weeks (in case, your company has more than 10 employees) and must be communicated that locals did not meet the job requirement.

·         Remember that application is the basis to decide if you deserve an EP. Thus, high qualifications do not, as a rule, get you the EP.

·         Other factors that are reviewed are; age, salary, present residency status, specific capabilities and abilities that could add value to Singapore, the reference letters you provide, and your track record. These other factors are supportive in obtaining an EP where education is not up to the mark.

 


What Causes Rejection of Employment Pass?

Staying and getting employed in Singapore is easier in Singapore, as compared to other countries. However, as per the new immigration laws, the government will reject applications that:

·         Lack of sufficient relevant work and/or education experience for the respective position applied for

·         The employer is not generating sufficient earnings or business and has fewer than required Singapore employees.

·         Lack of awareness of the application process by the employer (often, the rejection letter states the reason for rejection)

Applying for the Best Employment Pass Scheme

Application for the EP can be actioned in two ways: online via EPOL, or manually at the desk of any Singapore Post Office branch. An employee cannot directly apply; it can only be done on his behalf by an immigration agency or the hiring company. Either way, the applying agency requires your permission of the applicant to apply.

An application form (or a paper application) needs to be filled out and submitted along with the documents asked for. In case of online submission, the status of the application is available after three weeks. If submitted via SingPost, it takes four weeks to avail the status.

Processing the application takes a duration of 8 weeks. After approval of the EP, you will receive an ‘in-principle’ letter from the MOM. This letter is delivered to the hiring company (if applied for manually) or can be accessed on EPOL. The letter has a single-entry visa for entering Singapore, to get the EP. The process is long and laborious when it involves coordination with the hiring company.



Getting Your Employment Pass Renewed

For renewal of your EP, the MOM needs to be notified about your value add to the society, along with your financial and professional inputs to your employer and the country as a whole. This must be backed up with evidence showing progress in your career and an increased salary.

The work pass requires renewal six months before it expires. Again, the renewal can only be initiated by your employer or an immigration agent. This is a three-week-long process. For this, the renewal form requires to be submitted at a minimum of two months before the expiry of the pass.

After renewal, the validity of the EP extends for three years. On paper, the EP can be renewed throughout your career. However, for long-term stay in Singapore, it is advisable to apply for SPR status.

After assessing it, the MAS will advise in writing to the applicant, to go ahead with the sandbox, or drop the idea. 3.      Experimentation Stage After approval of the application, the sandbox is sent for the experiment, where the sandbox entity should apprise its customers about the financial service it operates sandbox and also about the corresponding risks. The entity must get a confirmation from the customers that they are clear about all risks.
